We are absolutely delighted to welcome back to St Mary’s, Jeneba Kanneh-Mason. Jeneba was last with us in September 2021 when she appeared with 4 of her siblings in a superb concert. Those of you who attended the concert will no doubt remember Jeneba’s spellbinding performances of Mendelssohn’s piano trio no 1 (with sisters Aminata & Mariatu), Mozart’s violin sonata No. 18 (again with Aminata), Rachmaninoff’s Elegie in E Minor (with Mariatu), but above all Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. Jeneba’s performance was faultless and had everybody talking afterwards.

For those of you who were not able to attend, 19 year old Jeneba is one member of the supremely talented Kanneh-Mason family and is studying piano at The Royal College of Music with Vanessa Latarche. Jeneba was a Keyboard Category Finalist in BBC Young Musician 2018, winner of the Murs du Son Prize at the Lagny-Sur-Marne International Piano Competition in France, 2014, and The Nottingham Young Musician 2013. She was also winner of the Iris Dyer Piano Prize at The Royal Academy of Music, Junior Academy, where she studied with Patsy Toh.

She has played numerous concerts in England, Wales, Paris and the Caribbean, as a recital and concerto soloist and as a chamber musician. She has performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1, Ravel’s Piano Concerto, Saint-
Saens Concerto No 2, Mozart K414, and Florence Price, Piano Concerto in One Movement with Chineke! Orchestra at both The Royal Festival Hall and The Royal Albert Hall, where she made her BBC Proms concerto debut in 2021.  As well as playing at Lamberhurst in 2022, Jeneba will also undertake tours of Australia, New Zealand, USA, Antigua and Barbuda with the Kanneh-Masons.

The programme for this concert is:
J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in C# major
Mozart: Sonata in D major, K. 576
Scriabin: Piano Sonata No. 2
Collection of Samuel Coleridge Taylor (exact selection tbc)
Liszt: Vallee D’Obermann
Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2

As you can see, Jeneba is again performing the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody, so we are in for a real treat!
I expect tickets for this concert to be in high demand.
