Description
The London Handel Players are a world class ensemble which specialises in Baroque chamber music and concertos. Founded in 2000 they have now just celebrated their 25th anniversary and in that time have thrilled audiences across the world with their performances. Praised by the New York Times for their “soulful depth” and their “consummate skill and musicianship” the ensemble appears regularly at major venues around the UK and internationally. The 2026 season will see them returning to the Wigmore Hall before taking the same programme on a UK tour.
The Players consist of a harpsichord/continuo, violin, cello and flute which together make a glorious sound. The programme will include Handel’s Trio Sonata for flute, violin and continuo, one of Handel’s early and most admired chamber works and a cornerstone of the Baroque trio repertoire. It shows Handel’s brilliance of counterpoint and expressive slow movements.
The programme will also include Handel’s harpsichord suite in F major, one of his best known and most frequently performed keyboard works. Also, three pieces by Bach, one of which will be the Trio Sonata from the Musical Offering which is regarded as one of the greatest trio sonatas ever written. And, finally, we’ll hear two arias from Handel’s Baroque opera Giulio Cesare.
All in all it will be a treat to hear many of the best known Baroque pieces played by one of the finest specialist groups for this type of music anywhere in the world.
